If you leave the Institute
Please do the following before you leave to ensure continuation of your research:
Computer-related
- Leave a forwarding email address so we can contact you if we find something
that belongs to you.
- Let us know whether you want your email account to be continued, forwarded
to your new address, or canceled. If we don't hear from you, we will close
your email account. Sorry, we can't forward your spam to you.
- Please dispose of all samples in the freezers, refrigerators, and liquid
nitrogen freezer, or transfer them to someone else. If we find samples with
no name or with the name of someone who has left, the samples will be
discarded.
- Take a copy of all your computer files that you will need, including those
on the server. Your computer will most likely be reformatted within a few
days after you leave. Your files on the server will be archived for an
indeterminate period of time, but you will need to contact us in order to
retrieve them. Large personal files such
as music files and movies will not be archived.
Administrative details
Please check with one of the secretaries to make sure administrative
details are taken care of. For example, you may wish to have your retirement
account transferred to your new employer.
Please dispose of any samples in the freezers. This includes any frozen
cells, radioisotopes, and chemicals. If you wish your samples to be saved,
consolidate them in a single container and mark it prominently.
Please do not give your equipment and supplies to other researchers.
They should be left in your lab.
